When fashion insiders talk about exciting young designers, Esteban Cortazar is certain to come up. Cortazar got his start as Ungaro’s Chief Creative Director, but now the 28 year old has an exciting collection all his own, largely inspired by NET-A-PORTER Fashion Director Holli Rogers.

“Through a chance encounter with Esteban after he left Ungaro, we conceived the idea of his return to fashion with a collection that will be available for sale the moment it is revealed to the world,” Rogers says.

Instead of waiting for the traditional six months after a runway show to buy your favorite piece, Esteban’s linear yet feminine collection is available now. “This season I have focused on clean lines and a neutral color palette to celebrate new beginnings,” he told us in an interview. “Creating a white canvas to build on: think butter-soft leather, satin, velvet, lamé, chiffon and twill.”

Cortazar also had his show online so that anyone in the world could watch. “As I was thinking of re-launching my label,” he says, “I wanted to explore a new approach rather than opting for the traditional. When looking ahead to where fashion will be in the future, going digital was the obvious channel.”

He also appreciates the internet’s ability to engage with a much greater, more diverse audience: “I was especially interested in global reach. Being able to talk to so many women around the world gives real perspective. It lets you know who is reacting to the collection and how.”
